Parent Handbook

Welcome to Pirchei Day Camp of Atlanta!!

We are confident that your child will find a warm and caring staff, a summer full of creative and fun activities, wonderful learning opportunities, exciting trips, expert swimming staff and a whole lot more! Please read all the following registration material as it contains important information about this year’s camp season as well as registration procedures.

Non-Discriminatory Policy: Pirchei of Atlanta does not discriminate against any camper, counselor, or other staff members based on race, creed, color, or religion. Pirchei welcomes applicants from any and all backgrounds.

Registration and Payment Schedule: In order to complete your son’s registration to camp, please register on the website, complete all forms and remit payment online. If you have any questions or requests about payment, please call Rabbi Hiller at 404.271.0828.

Counselor Appreciation: As is practiced in many camps, tipping counselors is an appropriate gesture to express appreciation for the great effort that they put into each and every camper in and out of camp. Suggested amount for each camper is $5-$7 per week for each counselor. During your son’s last week of camp, please send in money (or a check made out to Pirchei of Atlanta) to a camp administrator in a sealed envelope with your name on it and we will forward it to your son’s counselors. You can also pay on our website by visiting our website pircheidaycamp.org and click on donate.

Refund Policy: Pirchei Day Camp realizes that people’s plans can change unexpectantly at any time. This can sometimes result in a camper not being able to attend camp for all or some of the registered weeks. ח”ו Unexpected illnesses sometimes occur which can also result in a camper’s inability to attend for all or some of the registered weeks. Pirchei Day Camp is unable to offer any refunds including if the administration determines that it is no longer appropriate for a camper to be attending camp. Pirchei Day Camp apologizes in advance for any hardship that this might entail. By checking the consent form on the website, I am indicating my acceptance of the refund policy.

Facilities: Pirchei Day Camp will be located at the Lakeside High School School, 3801 Briarcliff Rd., Atlanta, GA 30345. We appreciate Dekalb County School System renting us these facilities. We hope to create a Kiddush Hashem by returning all property and equipment in the same condition we found it and always behaving in an exemplary manner. Please discuss this with your child(ren), as our counselors will in camp. By checking the consent form and waiver on the website, I am indicating my acceptance to pay for any property or equipment that my son damages or destroys as shall be determined by the camp administration.

Arrival: Drop off time is between 8:50 and 9:00 a.m. every morning. Please do not drop off your son before then as there will be no supervision. Please be prompt, because late arrivals will disrupt the davening/learning groups, and it will be harder for your child to adjust in the middle of a session.

Dismissal: Dismissal is at 3:15 p.m. Monday – Thursday. Dismissal on Friday will be at 2:15 p.m. Campers will not be allowed off the campgrounds during camp time. We cannot allow a camper to leave camp by himself if we do not have a parent’s permission. Please see dismissal form online. Campers with bikes should always have a proper helmet.

Food: Please send your son with a bag lunch every day. You may also send in a snack for him to eat later in the afternoon. Water bottles are strongly encouraged. Pirchei discourages sharing of food, but please be aware that this does take place.

Trips: Pirchei Day Camp offers awesome weekly trips!! Please send a water bottle or extra drinks. Sunscreen is recommended.

Supplies: Each day the following items should be brought to camp:
1) towel
2) bathing suit
3) sunscreen
4) hat
5) lunch.
Please wear comfortable clothing, tzitzis and sneakers every day. All items should be labeled with your child’s name. Please note that even on overcast or rainy days, your child should bring his swimming gear as the weather can change very quickly here in Atlanta!

Phones/Electronics: With the advent of so many sophisticated methods of communication and entertainment an entire new dimension of challenges are put in front of our precious youth. Many different approaches are taken by parents, educators and child advocates. In order to “level” the playing field, Pirchei has adopted a no electronic device policy. This means that campers may NOT bring ANY electronic devices (with or without internet capability) to camp at any time. This includes devices that will remain in a camper’s backpack and not be used. CELL PHONES may be brought to camp BUT MUST BE DEPOSITED UPON ARRIVAL AT THE CAMP OFFICE. THEY MAY BE PICKED UP UPON DISMISSAL. Please help us maintain this policy by discussing this with your son.

Communicating with Parents and Campers: Parents who need to reach their children in an immediate situation may call in the following order: (PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE LAKESIDE HIGH SCHOOL OFFICE)

Rabbi Yehuda Pollock 586-215-6350
Rabbi Moshe Hiller 404-271-0828
Mr. David Jaffee 404-394-7269 (9-10AM ONLY)
Mrs. Leah Hiller 404-992-9477

Lost and Found: We gather lost items in camp! The boxes will be available for claiming in the camp office after morning carpool. If you are looking for an item, or want to check the lost and found, please park in a parking space and enter the Pirchei office where the boxes will be. All items not claimed by the end of camp will be donated or discarded.

Special Situations: If there is any reason your son cannot participate in any of the activities, please make sure to send a note specifying so. If your child is on a special diet, please make sure to notify us. If your child has any special social/emotional requirements we would love to hear from you so we can make his experience as positive as can be!
